Revolutionizing Connectivity

Optimizing Wi-Fi Infrastructure for a Warehouse Food Distribution.

The company required a customized enterprise WiFi solution for its warehouse, which included freezer and refrigerated spaces, loading docks, and diverse construction materials. The goal was to ensure reliable connectivity for staff members, accommodate future initiatives such as product scanning, and coordinate seamlessly with the location manager.

Working in optimizing Wi-Fi infrastructure in a manufacturing comes with its own set of challenges, including:

Warehouse Size and Layout

Warehouses can be vast and have complex layouts with varying shelving configurations, racks, and storage areas. Ensuring comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage throughout such spaces can be challenging.

Interference

Warehouses often have machinery, equipment, and metal structures that can cause interference and signal blockage, leading to degraded Wi-Fi performance.

Dynamic Environment

Warehouses are dynamic environments where inventory levels change, and goods are constantly being moved around. This can affect Wi-Fi signal propagation and necessitate frequent updates to the network design.

Our technical solution encompassed the following:

Precise Data Gathering through Site Survey

Tecnet employs detailed data collection during a site survey to identify blind spots and understand features that impact Wi-Fi performance in the warehouse.

Comprehensive Network Design

Tecnet has developed a robust network design tailored to the specific needs of the client, ensuring optimal coverage, performance, and scalability. The solution encompasses the placement of access points, antennas, simulated maps, and accurate mapping of warehouse shelves.

Scalability Planning

The solution is designed with scalability in mind, allowing for seamless expansion as the client’s business grows and technology evolves.

The Wi-Fi design project yielded remarkable outcomes:

  • Improved Connectivity: the Ekahau-driven WiFi design significantly enhanced connectivity throughout the warehouse, successfully overcoming diverse challenges — measured using over 15 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including Signal Strength for Warehouse Coverage, Signal-To-Noise Ratio, Secondary Signal Strength, Tertiary Signal Strength, Channel Interference, Noise, Throughput, Packet Loss, and Number of APs.
  • Streamlined Planning: efficient utilization of CAD files, scale calculations, and coverage mapping resulted in streamlined network planning and ensured optimal performance.
  • Future-Ready Network: beyond meeting current needs, the project laid the groundwork for a resilient and adaptable WiFi infrastructure, positioning the client for future technological advancements.
