The Challenge
Highly sensitive industries often rely on legacy systems and applications that may not natively support MFA. Integrating MFA solutions with these systems while maintaining security and usability can be complex and require careful planning
Our client recognized the need to enhance their cybersecurity measures. They sought to implement MFA to strengthen access controls and protect their valuable intellectual property from unauthorized access.
Without MFA, relying solely on passwords for authentication increases the risk of unauthorized access to sensitive systems and data. Attackers may exploit weak or stolen passwords to gain unauthorized entry, leading to data breaches, financial losses, and reputational damage.
One of the key challenges in implementing effective manufacturing IT systems is striking the right balance between technical capability and practical usability. Technology must not only be secure and robust but needs to integrate seamlessly into the facilities processes.
Solution Design
Our Technical solution encompassed the following
Windows Hello for Business was identified as the most suitable MFA solution. It requires a Domain Controller running on newer Windows Server editions. A Domain Controller upgrade will be fast-tracked ahead of the main server upgrades. MFA rollout will follow the server upgrades.
MFA rollout will follow the server upgrades.
A custom SKU from Lenovo was requested for the engineering system.
Yubikeys for 2FA and a USB-connected fingerprint reader, was recommended if needed.
MFA and Windows Hello for Business will be rolled out in stages, starting with test users, and gradually expanding to the rest of the staff. User guides and instructions will be provided for MFA enrollment and Windows Hello for Business setup.
Our Impact
The implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication brought significant improvements to our client’s overall cybersecurity posture. The key outcomes of the project included
With Windows Hello for Business, we implemented a robust MFA solution that significantly strengthened access controls and reduced the risk of unauthorized access to their systems and sensitive data.
Employees quickly adapted to the new MFA process through targeted training and ongoing support. The user-friendly interface and seamless authentication experience provided by Windows Hello for Business received positive feedback from the overall staff.
The implementation of MFA aligned with industry best practices and regulatory compliance requirements. The organization was better prepared for audits and demonstrated a commitment to safeguarding customer data and intellectual property.
